EV Charging Equipment & Installation Incentives

There may be federal, state, and local credits and incentives available for Electric Vehicles and EV charging equipment or installation. Please visit the U.S. Department of Energy's Alternative Fuel website to learn about local and federal tax incentives currently available.

Current Incentives & Rebates

Below are samples of commercial EV charging equipment opportunities available.


The City of Anaheim is currently offering a rebate to customers who install a Level 2 charging station. Anaheim Public Utilities will reimburse customers for out-of-pocket expenses (including charger purchase price and installation costs) of up to $500 per charger. In addition to the rebate, the City's permit application fees (related to the installation of the charger) will be waived. Applications are subject to the availability of funds. The Antelope Valley Air Quality Management District (AVQMD) is offering up to 80% reimbursement on the equipment and installation of EV infrastructure. This opportunity is directed, not limited to, LEED certified buildings, retail centers, centers of worship, hospitals, and public transit areas (bus depots, train stations, park & rides). Bay Area Air Quality Management District ("BAAQMD") Charge! Program is offering rebates of up to $3,000 per unit for a Level 2 EV charger and up to $25,000 per unit for a DC Fast charger ("DCFC") at transportation corridors, workplaces, multi-family dwelling units (MDUs) and trip destination locations within the nine-county Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma). Awards are limited to 75% of eligible project costs incurred and the minimum grant amount is $10k per project. More information about this program can be found here.

The Burbank Water and Power ("BWP") currently offers rebates 
of up to $1,000 for commercial Level 2 EV chargers and up to $500 for residential Level 2 EV Chargers. Up to four rebates are available for a BWP multi-family house account or a commercial account. Charger must be new and have a purchase and installation date of July 1, 2015 or later. Applications must be submitted no later than four months from the date of purchase and are accepted on a first-come first serve basis until rebate funds are exhausted. The Los Angeles Department of Water & Power ("LADWP") also offers an EV Charger Rebate Program. The rebate of up to $750, $1,000, or $15,000 (dependent on the type of charger) towards out-of-pocket expenses is currently available to qualifying commercial customers who purchase and install Level 2 or DC Fast Chargers ("DCFC") at their place of business for employee and public use. The Pasadena Water and Power ("PWP") PEV Charger Rebate Program offers a rebate of up to $400 to PWP customers who purchase and install a qualifying Level 2 charger for employee’s vehicle charging. Up to two incentives are available per PWP commercial account. Applications for this first-come, first serve rebate opportunity will be accepted until rebate funds have been exhausted. The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District (SJVAPCD) Charge Up Program is offering up to $5,000 per unit for a Level 2 Single Port EV charger and up to $6,000 per unit for a Level 2 Dual Port EV charger. The funding cap per applicant is $50,000 annually. Funding amounts apply towards the charger, eligible installation costs, and necessary signage (some exclusions apply, such as fees for permits, document preparation, consulting, site evaluation, etc). The Electric Vehicle Charging Station Financing Program, part of the California Capital Access Program ("CalCAP"), provides loans for the design, development, purchase, and installation of EVSE at small business locations in California. The Program may provide up to 100% coverage to lenders on certain loan defaults. Lenders must apply to the California Pollution Control Financing Authority (CPCFA) to participate and enroll each qualified EVSE loan through CalCAP. Upon approval, CPCFA will pay a premium into the lender's loan loss reserve account for up to 20% of the loan amount and contribute an additional 10% for installations in multi-unit dwellings and disadvantaged communities. Small businesses are eligible for a rebate of 50% of the loan loss reserve amount after the small business repays the loan in full or meets monthly payment deadlines over a 48-month period. Eligible borrowers must be small businesses with 1,000 or fewer employees and must maintain legal control of the EVSE for the entire loan period. The maximum loan amount is $500,000 per qualified small business and can be insured for up to four years. The California Energy Commission funds the Program. Property-Assessed Clean Energy ("PACE") financing allows property owners to borrow funds to pay for energy improvements, including purchasing and installing EVSE. The borrower repays over a defined period of time through a special assessment on the property. Local governments in California are authorized to establish PACE programs. Property owners must agree to a contractual assessment on the property tax bill, have a clean property title, and be current on property taxes and mortgages. Financing limits are 15% of the first $700,000 of the property value and 10% of the remaining property value. The Regional Air Quality Council Electric Vehicle and Charging Station Grant is available to local governments, education institutions, non-profit agencies, apartment complexes and businesses with multi-vehicle parking facilities in the Denver Metro Area for 80% of the cost or up to $3,260 for Level 2 single port charging stations, $6,260 for Level 2 dual port charging stations, $13,000 for DC fast single connection charging stations, and $16,000 for DC fast multiple connection charging stations. For entities outside of the Denver Metro Area, the Colorado Energy Office Electric Vehicle and Charging Station Grant covers 80% of the cost or up to $3,260 for Level 2 single port charging stations, $6,260 for Level 2 dual port charging stations, $13,000 for DC fast single connection charging stations, and $16,000 for DC fast multiple connection charging stations. Applications open periodically for both grants.


  • The Delaware Electric Vehicle Charging Supply Equipment Rebate Program offers a $500 rebate to install Level 2 charging stations for business customers. Rebates are limited to five chargers per fleet. The rebates are subject to the availability of funds. Click here for more information.

District of Columbia:

Through December 31, 2026, individuals can receive an Income Tax Credit of $10,000 per qualified public charging station.


  • The Orlando Utilities Commission ("OUC") is offering commercial businesses and multi-family buildings a $200 (per station) rebate for the purchase and installation of an EV charging station. . Click here for more information.


The state offers an income tax credit of 36% of the cost of converting a vehicle to operate on an alternative fuel, the incremental cost of purchasing an original equipment manufacturer AFV, and the cost of alternative fueling equipment.   • The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection ("MassDEP") currently provides an incentive to employers for the acquisition of Level 1 and Level 2 electric vehicle ("EV") charging stations. Massachusetts employers with 15 or more employees in non-residential places of business are eligible. MassDEP will provide 50% of the funding (up to $25,000) for hardware costs to employers installing Level 1 and Level 2 charging stations. The Alternative Fueling Infrastructure Tax Credit is available to Missouri taxpayers for 20% or up to $20,000 for businesses of the cost of a charging station. The tax credit is authorized through January 1, 2018 but is subject to annual funding appropriations. Kansas City Power & Light is also taking applications for businesses to host charging stations through the KCP&L Clean Charge Network Program.

New York:

The Alternative Fuels and Electric Vehicle Recharging Property Credit is available through December 31, 2017 and provides a tax credit of up to $5,000 for the purchase and installation of charging stations by businesses and corporations.


The Alternative Fueling Infrastructure Tax Credit is a one-time income tax credit available through January 1, 2020 to corporations for up to 75% of the cost of an electric vehicle charging station project. Tax credits can be claimed on multiple properties although some restrictions apply.


The Residential Alternative Fuel Vehicle Infrastructure Tax Credit is available through December 31, 2017 to homebuilders for 25% of the cost or up to $750 of EV charging equipment.


Austin Energy offers a rebate of up to 50% of the cost to install approved Level 2 charging stations for businesses. For more information please click here.
